Pro Makeup Tips & Tricks
* Clean your skin!
Always cleanse and prime your face before applying foundation. With a clean face, your makeup will last hours longer! If you don't have a primer, moisturiser will work too. Do not use both! You will risk your makeup sliding off your face.
* Eyeshadow first!
Mainly when using dark eyeshadows, it is best to apply the eyeshadow before your foundation. By doing this, if you get any fall out from your eyeshadows (which is most likely), you can easily clean it off your face without worrying about ruining your foundation.
* Blend your eyeshadows!
When you think you're finished blending your eyeshaddow, you're probably not! Initially, you should not be able to tell where one colour ends and the other colour starts. There should be no visible line, just a smooth, seamless transition.
* Set your foundation!
Once you have applied your liquid or cream based foundation, always set with a powder. You can use a pigmented powder matching your skin tone or just a translucent powder. They both do the same thing. By doing this you are removing the dewy/shiny look that foundation gives and your skin won't look oily. It will also help to hold other powders you apply over the top (blush, bronzer, eyeshadow).
* Contouring your eyes!
By applying a bronzer to the crease/socket of your eyes, this will give the illusion that your eyes sit more forward/appear larger. You can also bring the bronzer down under your lower lash line to give the same affect on the bottom.
- avoid doing this if you have protruding eyes.
* Mascara!
When applying mascara (particularly when you have applied eyeshadow), always apply to your lower lashes first. This way, when you look up to do the bottom lashes, you're not risking getting wet mascara all over your beautiful work.
* Wiping away mistakes!
If you do accidentally get mascara in a spot it shouldn't be, grab a cotton tip. Roll it over the mascara to lift it off your skin without removing any other makeup. Make sure cotton tip is dry when doing this!
* Contouring!
When contouring your face be sure to use the right colour for your skin tone. If someone complements you on your contour, it's probably too dark! Initially, you are trying to create a shadow affect. Apply a thin line and blend. You should not be able to see any harsh lines once you have finished blending. The contour shade should be no more than 3 shades darker than your natural skin tone.
* Highlight!
Who doesn't love a good highlight? We highlight particular features in order to make those features stand out. These features include: cheekbones, inner corner of the eyes, under arc of brow, tip and bridge of the nose and the cupids bow.
It is important to use the correct colour highlight for your skin tone. You should not be able to see the colour, just the shine as it catches the light (this excludes eye area).
Colour guide:
Pale skin: soft gold pigments
Medium skin: soft gold or rose gold pigments
Dark skin: deep gold or bronze pigments
Black skin: burgundy or dark shimmery chocolate pigments
* Lining your waterline!
By applying a white eyeliner to your water line, it gives the illusion of larger eyes. It makes it look as though the white part of your eye continues down further than what it really does.
By applying a nude eyeliner to your water line this will void any redness in your eyes.
